Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Kids in Zürich
Build Confidence. Learn Respect. Have Fun.
Our Kids BJJ classes help children develop discipline, confidence, and coordination in a safe, playful, and structured environment.
Why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Is Great for Kids
BJJ gives children more than just self-defense — it gives them a framework for personal growth. In every class, kids face small challenges and learn to solve them through focus, discipline, and effort. Over time, they build real confidence from the inside out.
What makes BJJ different is that it works for every type of kid. Whether your child is energetic, quiet, shy, or bold — there’s space to grow. The practice is cooperative, not aggressive. Children learn to respect one another, to work together, and to challenge themselves in a safe, structured way.
Many parents are surprised at how quickly their child becomes more focused, more patient, and more resilient — both on and off the mats.
Here’s why parents choose BJJ:
- Builds real confidence by helping kids face and overcome new challenges
- Teaches focus, discipline, and respect in every class
- Improves coordination, balance, and body awareness
- Provides practical self-defense and anti-bullying strategies
- Develops resilience through a “try again” mindset that rewards effort and consistency

How Our Kids Program Works
Our Kids BJJ curriculum is designed to make martial arts accessible, fun, and structured, helping your child grow every week.
Free Trial Week + Loaner Uniform
To help parents and children find the right fit, we offer a free one‑week trial with free loaner gis included. This gives families a risk-free way to experience our environment and teaching style before committing.
Varied Weekly Classes
We host multiple Kids BJJ classes per week — each one focusing on movement, technique, and skill-building games. This schedule allows kids to train regularly without being overwhelming and fits well into family routines.
Kid-Friendly Teaching Method
Our classes are structured to support:
- Jiu-Jitsu technique learning—covered step-by-step to encourage mastery
- Movement and coordination skills—drilling and playful exercises keep their bodies learning
- Game-based formats—integrating jiu-jitsu principles into fun challenges
- Energy-burning exercises—perfect for active kids ready to move
Focus on Social & Emotional Skills
Kids learn to socialize and develop interpersonal skills through cooperative drills and partner work. They learn confidence and respect.
Structured Curriculum & Progress Tracking
Our classes follow a clear, structured curriculum, with regular stripe and belt promotions to mark personal growth. This helps kids stay motivated and gives families visible milestones in their development.
Qualified, Kid-Experienced Coaches
All classes are led by qualified coaches trained both in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and in teaching children. They keep sessions dynamic, safe, and always positively reinforced — guiding every student by name, effort, and attitude.

What Parents Can Expect
We know how important it is to feel confident in where you’re sending your child. That’s why we keep parents informed, involved, and welcomed — from their very first visit onward.
When you walk into BJJ Lab Zürich, you’ll notice a few things right away: a clean, modern space; respectful and attentive coaches; and a group of children who are smiling, learning, and having fun. We don’t just teach techniques — we teach values, structure, and focus.
Watching Class: Optional, but Not Always Ideal
You’re welcome to observe class from the seating area — many parents do. But in our experience, most children focus better and engage more fully when parents step away for a bit. It helps them build independence, confidence, and trust in the coach.
If you’d like, there are several cafés and quiet spots nearby where you can relax while your child trains. And of course, you’re always welcome to check in before or after class to ask questions or hear how they’re doing.
Communication and Transparency
If you do stay, you’ll be able to see exactly what we’re teaching and how we interact with the kids. Our coaches are always happy to answer questions before or after class.
We also offer a free trial week so your child can get a feel for the training before any commitment. During this time, you’ll be able to see how they respond, ask questions, and make a fully informed decision.
A Path for Long-Term Growth
As your child progresses, they’ll move from our basics curriculum into more advanced material — always supported, never rushed. We have kids who’ve trained with us for years, gradually building skills, confidence, and friendships that last well beyond the mats.
From beginner to advanced levels, every child follows the same path: show up consistently, try your best, and enjoy the journey. The rest takes care of itself.

Frequently Asked Questions
What age can my child start training?
We offer classes starting from age 3. Our youngest group (ages 3–5) focuses on movement games, coordination, and basic body awareness — perfect for building early confidence and focus in a fun, low-pressure setting.
From around age 6 and up, kids transition into more structured Jiu-Jitsu classes where they begin learning techniques, practicing with partners, and developing real skills.
Does my child need any experience or gear?
Not at all. Most kids start with no martial arts experience. We provide a clean loaner uniform (Gi) during the free trial week, so you don’t have to buy anything to get started.
If your child continues, they’ll receive a uniform as part of our intro package, which includes several weeks of training without needing to commit to a long-term membership right away.
What if my child is shy, anxious, or not athletic?
That’s one of the most common reasons parents bring their kids to us — and we love working with shy kids. Many of our most outgoing, confident students today were quiet and reserved when they first started. After just a few sessions, they began smiling more, speaking up, and moving with more confidence.
We take the time to make each child feel safe, seen, and supported. There’s no pressure to perform or be perfect — just encouragement to grow at their own pace.
Will my child be sparring right away?
Only if they feel ready. We introduce positional sparring gradually and always with close supervision. Kids who are excited to try can jump in early. Others may take a few weeks before they feel comfortable — both are completely fine.
How is progress measured?
We use a structured curriculum with clear expectations for each stage. Kids earn stripes and belts based on their attendance, effort, improvement, and attitude — not competition or aggression.
We focus on personal growth, not comparing kids to each other.
What should my child bring to class?
Flip flops, a water bottle, comfortable clothes to change into, and a curious attitude. We’ll take care of the rest, including a clean uniform for their first class.
How many times per week should they train?
1–2 times per week is a great starting point. It’s enough to build skills and confidence while still keeping the experience fun and low-pressure. As your child gets more into it, they can train more often.
Is BJJ safe for kids?
Yes. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling martial art — no punching or kicking. Kids learn to move with control, fall safely, and treat their partners with respect. Our coaches supervise every drill and match children based on size, age, and experience level.
What happens after the trial week?
If your child enjoys it, you can continue with our intro package, which includes training and a uniform without a long-term commitment. This gives you more time to see how they’re progressing before choosing a full membership.
Do you offer teen classes?
Not at the moment. Once kids are big enough and want to take on more challenging training, they gradually transition into our adult classes — always with guidance from the coaches to make sure the timing and fit are right.
