How to Tie Your Belt

When you are just starting out in BJJ, it can be challenging to figure out how to tie your belt. Use this guide to make sure that you are not lost in your first BJJ class. If you don’t remember how to tie your belt, don’t worry! Our coaches and members are always happy to help.

Here’s how to tie your BJJ belt the traditional way:

Start by placing the right side of your gi over the left. Then, take your belt and fold it in half. Hold the middle of the belt at your belly button.

Wrap both ends around your back and bring them to the front. Make sure the belt is snug but not too tight.

Now, take the top end and tuck it behind all the other belt layers. Pull everything tight to make sure the belt stays in place.

Next, bring the top end over the bottom end and pass it through the hole you’ve made.

Pull on both ends to tighten the knot.

This method is the standard way to tie your belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. While there are other ways to tie it, this one is simple and effective for keeping your gi secure during training or competition.

Practice a few times, and it will become second nature.
